About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and analyze transmission system improvement scenarios
  • Enhance transfer capability and integrate generation, electric demand, and storage
  • Reduce losses and simplify system operation
  • Improve reliability, resilience, environmental sustainability, and power quality of Vermont’s integrated transmission system
  • Perform and document load flow, stability, and related transmission planning studies
  • Guide technical analyses of the transmission system and evaluate transmission economics
  • Communicate clearly with engineers, management, utilities, system operators, the public, and regulators
  • Collaborate with VELCO departments, participating utilities, and other stakeholders to develop transmission and non-transmission solutions
  • Manage data organization and reporting
  • Apply planning processes, procedures, and standards for model updates, system studies, reporting, and compliance
  • Provide technical information and advice on system enhancements and projects
  • Improve procedures and templates to increase departmental and company efficiency

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
  • 2 to 7 years of experience with electrical system planning tools
  • Experience with PowerWorld, PSLF or PSS/E power flow and transient stability
  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills related to electrical system planning modeling
  • Programming skills in C variants, Python, Visual Basic, etc.
  • Ability to maintain strict adherence to procedures and policies for reliability and safety in critical systems
  • Ability to scope and review transmission projects and assess, develop, and communicate model requirements
  • Superior communication skills
  • Self-motivation, innovation, and organization
  • Ability to travel to various meeting sites
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful reference check, background check including social media check, physical examination, and drug screening required for employment
