About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to optimize plant equipment performance
  • Supervise the Maintenance team
  • Coordinate facilities and maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Develop technician and operator training needs, materials, matrices, and training sessions
  • Develop and implement long-term technical problem-solving strategies
  • Coordinate technical resources and assign priorities based on operational and business needs
  • Monitor compliance with cGMPs, safety, housekeeping guidelines, and SOPs
  • Communicate issues, root causes, and corrective actions across all shifts
  • Control repair and maintenance spending within the department budget
  • Manage on-site contractors and ensure compliance with site safety rules
  • Ensure timely and correct equipment set-ups, changeovers, and repairs
  • Develop and maintain changeover sheets, start-up checklists, procedures, certification programs, and training
  • Review and implement improvements to operations, autonomous maintenance, and maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot packaging, processing, plant support, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, PLC/HMI, sensor, vision, and thermal printer systems
  • Maintain accurate equipment spare-parts and change-parts inventory
  • Identify and purchase replacement equipment components
  • Review equipment reliability and recommend improvements
  • Lead and support OPEX and preventative maintenance initiatives
  • Implement equipment design upgrades to improve efficiency and reliability
  • Participate in new equipment launches, specifications, acceptance protocols, factory acceptance tests, commissioning, start-up, and installation
  • Identify and resolve safety concerns, conduct risk and hazard assessments, and participate in PSR and EH&S activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A minimum of 3–5 years supervisory experience
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing facilities
  • Engineering degree/diploma or equivalent maintenance experience
  • Millwright certification or Electrical License an asset
  • Familiarity with processing and packaging equipment
  • Broad engineering and/or maintenance background in manufacturing, filling and packaging environment
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting methods
  • Knowledge of using machine tools and hand tools safely and correctly
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and PLC programming
  • Knowledge of CMMS principles of operation
  • Knowledge of safety responsibilities and legal/company procedures
  • Strong computer skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to work typical 8–12 hour shifts, additional unscheduled hours, and weekends as required
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and occasional lifting/moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance
