About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Repair and maintain machinery, mechanical equipment, and systems in DSM, Margarine/Oil
  • Perform corrective and emergency maintenance on food packaging and processing equipment to maximize machine uptime
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and assigned work orders to increase asset life
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical and electrical equipment issues
  • Rebuild pumps, mills, gearboxes, and other miscellaneous mechanical equipment
  • Assist Production Machine Operators with troubleshooting equipment problems
  • Support production operators with changeovers and machine setups
  • Support the SQF Program and promote food safety
  • Perform miscellaneous assigned projects and duties within the maintenance department

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in a food manufacturing plant
  • Capable of performing duties of a Production Machine Technician
  • Minor AC/DC electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic understanding of mechanical applications and principles
  • Basic part identification
  • Basic knowledge of at least two of: packaging equipment repair and maintenance; processing equipment repair and maintenance; HVAC systems repair and maintenance; hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repair
  • Ability to identify bearing type and size for lubrication
  • Ability to identify the correct lubrication and amount for the application on all lubricated surfaces
  • Mechanical competency and ability to perform some work on support equipment
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic packaging equipment
  • Basic electrical competency
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in JDE; able to create and close out work orders
  • Basic use of hand and power tools
  • Basic use of shop equipment
  • Understanding and history of following GMP and related food manufacturing policies
  • Knowledge and utilization of safety programs such as LOTO and confined space entry
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and diagrams and follow verbal instructions and basic hand-drawn documents
  • Ability to perform required physical tasks, including standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance may be required
  • Willingness and ability to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Willingness to work additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends as needed
  • Ability to work in adverse temperatures, around operational chemicals, fumes, food allergens, confined or dark spaces, and at heights exceeding 18 feet as required
