About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set up, inspect, operate, monitor, and clean equipment to produce products efficiently while maintaining product quality and minimizing waste
  • Operate all line equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assist in managing the production department by delegating assignments to line crew
  • Support the Department Supervisor, Department Superintendent, and Department Manager
  • Lead production-line operations by providing support, guidance, and leadership to production personnel
  • Ensure assigned line tasks are completed and proactively handle problems
  • Coordinate daily activities of the B&L, oils, ILS, and spice room departments, including staffing, rework, ingredients, batch adjustments, packaging, spice-room weighing, and processing
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, SOPs, safety procedures, process safety management procedures, company policies, and quality procedures
  • Monitor and review process and packaging-line reports, including votator logs, filter/change-over logs, code-date verification, weight sheets, metal-detector logs, SIS logs, and seal-test forms
  • Operate equipment within established parameters; document parameters, incidents, and corrective and preventive actions
  • Ensure reports are accurate and submitted on time
  • Check equipment for maintenance issues and proper setup before startup
  • Perform minor equipment adjustments and pre-op inspections
  • Ensure required corrective actions are completed and documented before startup
  • Participate in training and evaluation of new hires, part-time employees, temporary personnel, and successful bidders
  • Communicate issues across departments and shifts and update the production board at shift end
  • Work with departments to ensure good operations, quality, and safety
  • Identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and report repair needs to supervisors
  • Assure compliance with food safety policies, the SQF code, GMPs, FSMA, and associated preventive controls
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience operating lift equipment preferred
  • Reading and math skills are required
  • Computer literate
  • Must be qualified as a machine operator on production areas, meeting all qualifications of a Process Operator
  • Mechanical aptitude and good hand and eye coordination
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and relay information effectively
  • Problem solving skills and ability to apply sound decision making skills
  • Ability to work and coach cooperatively and constructively with all employees
  • Ability to identify and report food safety and food security concerns
  • Must be able and willing to work different shifts as needed
  • Must be able and willing to work typical shifts of 8-12 hours per day, with possible additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends
  • Must wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, squat, kneel, push, pull, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance
