About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead, manage, and execute Ventura Foods quality and food safety systems at the plant level
  • Coordinate with the Regional Plant Quality Assurance Manager and other plant QA Managers on policy systems, communication, and training
  • Maintain adherence to FSMA, USDA where applicable, and other regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate projects and training support for Operations teams
  • Serve as liaison with Technical Services, Operations Excellence, R&D, HS&E, Sales, Marketing, HR, and Finance
  • Lead plant systems for SOPs, SSOPs, training, product specifications, Must Dos, Right First Time processing, and Total Product Containment
  • Maintain quality and food safety policies, procedures, HACCP/GMP programs, SQF II requirements, and customer specifications
  • Manage second-party and third-party audits
  • Direct and train QA personnel and manage related budgets, costs, schedules, audits, and testing methodologies
  • Collaborate with sanitation teams on Master Sanitation, Production Sanitation, and PEM programs
  • Participate in plant management budgeting, people planning, and capital expenditure reviews
  • Conduct staff reviews and establish annual performance goals
  • Analyze QA plans, identify gaps, and improve critical control points and preventive measures
  • Establish specifications, monitor analysis, and manage corrective actions and verification procedures with Technical Services and R&D
  • Manage complaint reviews and corrective-action resolutions with Operations, Regional, and HQ teams
  • Evaluate results statistically to improve processing and product performance
  • Manage projects to reduce costs, eliminate variation, and standardize methods
  • Oversee specifications for finished goods, processing, raw materials, and packaging, including Kosher and Halal requirements
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety and HR policies, food regulations, and current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Serve as the primary plant technical contact for new products and test runs
  • Coordinate new projects with Regional QA, Technical Services, and R&D
  • Monitor facility processing projects to protect product quality
  • Represent the Plant Operations Manager or Regional Quality Assurance Manager at company or industry events when needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of people and functional leadership responsibilities in Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Technical Services, R&D, and/or other food-related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Food manufacturing highly preferred
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to prioritize decisions and actions using problem solving and creative thinking approaches
  • Knowledge in executing and maintaining a Quality Systems program
  • Basic knowledge of federal, state, and possibly local regulations and standards relating to Food Safety and Quality
  • Understanding and adoption of FSMA
  • Project management, interpersonal, and supervisory skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ERP or related systems
  • Ability to perform required physical tasks, including intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance
  • Willingness and ability to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Willingness to work typical 8–12 hour shifts, additional unscheduled time, and weekends as required
