About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and deliver a strategic business development plan across the UK
- Identify, qualify, and convert high-value opportunities across COMAH and Defence site owners, engineering and environmental consultancies, and real estate owners and developers
- Build and manage a pipeline of premium, margin-accretive opportunities
- Own the complete sales lifecycle from market identification and early engagement through contract negotiation and close
- Engage senior stakeholders to address reputation, legacy liabilities, climate change, and regulatory risks
- Build partnerships with engineering and environmental consultancies and position Veolia as a preferred delivery partner
- Support real estate and development customers with contamination solutions that unlock land value and accelerate development
- Connect investigation, remediation, soil treatment, and waste management capabilities into integrated solutions
- Lead consultative discovery of customers’ operational, financial, environmental, and reputational challenges
- Influence project requirements, specifications, and procurement strategies before tender stages
- Develop strategic account plans and map stakeholder and buyer pathways
- Lead cross-functional bid teams and coordinate internal specialists
- Develop and present commercially robust proposals
- Secure contracts based on the strategic value of comprehensive environmental management
- Promote sustainable alternatives including soil washing, material recovery, and legitimate reuse through CL:AIRE Materials Management Plans
- Drive lower-carbon engineering solutions including bioremediation and in-situ chemical oxidation
- Promote PFAS solutions including high-temperature incineration
- Build long-term customer relationships and demonstrate the commercial value of environmental risk and liability resolution
- Monitor and report pipeline growth, account penetration, bid conversion, margin expansion, sustainability, and solution adoption
- Travel nationally to customer and Veolia sites as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant experience in business development, strategic sales, or commercial leadership within environmental services, remediation, waste management, infrastructure, engineering, consultancy, or a related sector
- Strong knowledge of contaminated land, environmental risk, remediation, soil treatment, waste management, or related environmental markets
- Proven track record managing complex, consultative sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and significant contract values
- Experience engaging senior leaders, board-level stakeholders, site owners, consultants, developers, and procurement teams
- Demonstrable experience developing relationships with COMAH, Defence, real estate, development, engineering, or environmental consultancy customers
- Ability to identify opportunities early, influence customer requirements, and establish preferred-partner status before procurement begins
- Strong commercial acumen, including value proposition development, effective negotiation, and securing profitable contracts
- Experience leading multidisciplinary bid teams and coordinating technical, operational, and commercial expertise
- Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills
- Consultative and customer-focused approach
- Ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear commercial benefits
- Understanding of, or enthusiasm for, material recovery, low-carbon remediation, and PFAS destruction
- Strong pipeline management, account planning, forecasting, and CRM skills
