About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the strategic direction, operational excellence, and technical delivery of Web Experience and Technical SEO capability
Lead end-to-end technical site audits and identify structural obstacles, rendering issues, and optimisation opportunities
Architect technical strategies for traditional search, AI summaries, and generative AI chat experiences
Oversee structured data schema, semantic HTML, site architecture, and rendering optimisation
Oversee front-end web performance analysis and Core Web Vitals compliance
Translate audit findings into developer-ready specifications and tickets
Work with client web developers, frontend engineers, and technical architects to communicate requirements and validate fixes
Lead technically complex site migrations, platform rebuilds, re-architectures, and international rollouts
Formulate and manage technical roadmaps, effort requirements, and resource allocation
Resolve complex technical issues, indexing emergencies, and performance drops
Modernise Croud’s Web Experience methodology and integrate emerging technologies and generative AI search behaviours
Lead technical Test & Learn initiatives
Produce case studies and whitepapers
Support sales and pitch initiatives with technical audits and solution design
Oversee work assigned to specialist on-demand network experts
Provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance to the Organic Performance team
Report to the Head of Organic Strategy

Requirements

What you’ll need

Extensive experience in Technical SEO within an agency environment
Expert knowledge of Technical SEO best practice, site migrations and web performance optimisation
Strong understanding of AI search, emerging search technologies and the evolving search landscape
Confident working with developers and translating technical recommendations into actionable solutions
Commercially minded with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Proven experience leading technical teams and driving capability development across a business
Experience with Apache configuration files, redirects, and CLI tools
Knowledge of structured data schema, semantic HTML, site architecture, and rendering optimisation
Knowledge of Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, PageSpeed Insights, and WebPageTest
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Experience with Jira or Azure DevOps
Understanding of W3C and WCAG standards
