About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers through one-on-ones, clear expectations, and feedback.
- Set individual and team goals, track progress, and address performance concerns.
- Screen, interview, and make selection recommendations for engineering hires.
- Build a culture of ownership, trust, and continuous learning.
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted development tools and establish effective daily practices.
- Establish AI-assisted workflows across specification, design, implementation, code review, testing, and documentation.
- Apply AI tooling to legacy-codebase analysis, test coverage, safe refactoring, and modernization.
- Define responsible-use guardrails covering reviews, security, data handling, and quality.
- Measure AI tooling impact on throughput, cycle time, and quality.
- Own code quality and engineering-standard adherence; review pull requests.
- Partner with principal engineers on architecture and technical direction.
- Oversee technical planning and sizing.
- Contribute hands-on roughly 30% of the time through coding, reviews, prototyping, and pairing.
- Ensure delivery against timelines, commitments, and objectives.
- Prioritize work with Product Management and negotiate scope, quality, and schedule trade-offs.
- Facilitate or participate in agile ceremonies and on-call rotation as required.
- Surface delivery risks and communicate mitigation options.
- Partner with Software Development, Product, QA, and UX leaders.
- Coordinate cross-team architecture, dependencies, and releases.
- Engage customers and stakeholders, gather feedback, and apply root-cause analysis.
- Improve engineering workflows and agile practices.
- Maintain documentation and promote continuous learning.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of professional software development experience with deep, hands-on technical proficiency.
- Demonstrated ability or strong aptitude to lead software engineers.
- Strong experience with C#/.NET.
- Experience with WPF and MVVM or comparable desktop UI frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as TeamCity.
- Track record of delivering high-quality software on schedule while upholding engineering standards.
- Fluency with agile methods, including Scrum or Kanban, and iterative, incremental delivery.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Product- and user-centered mindset in engineering decisions.
- Coachability, openness to feedback, and a record of reliability.
- Genuine curiosity about AI-assisted development and willingness to lead others through changes.
- Preferred: hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor.
- Preferred: experience introducing tools or practices and measuring impact on productivity or quality.
- Preferred: experience with large, long-lived codebases, refactoring, test coverage, or modernization.
- Preferred: experience collaborating with distributed teams across time zones.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
