About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Maintain, enhance and develop features within the AIS platform
Build and support PHP back-end services and RESTful APIs
Develop and maintain Angular front-end interfaces
Design and optimise MySQL database schemas, queries and stored procedures
Investigate and resolve bugs, performance issues and production incidents
Contribute to platform architecture and shared services
Participate in Agile processes including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives
Collaborate with Product Managers to refine requirements, estimate work and deliver features iteratively
Implement and maintain automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
Provide third-level technical support where required
Produce and maintain technical documentation
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, tooling and platform reliability

Requirements

What you’ll need

3+ years professional experience building and maintaining commercial software systems
Strong experience developing server-side applications using PHP; Laravel, Symfony or similar frameworks preferred
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and JSON-based integrations
Experience with MySQL, including schema design, query optimisation and performance tuning
Front-end development experience with Angular
Experience building or deploying applications on AWS cloud infrastructure
Experience using Git or modern source control systems
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
Methodical approach to problem solving, debugging and production support
Passion for technology and desire to continuously learn and improve
Highly desirable: AWS serverless services including Lambda, Step Functions and API Gateway
Highly desirable: Agile/Scrum development experience
Highly desirable: event-driven architecture or message bus technologies
Highly desirable: Test-Driven Development (TDD)
Highly desirable: software design patterns and clean architecture principles
Highly desirable: AI development tools or AI-assisted engineering workflows
Highly desirable: insurance or financial services industry experience
Insurance sector background or enthusiasm is a bonus, not essential
