About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform electrical engineering duties across transmission and distribution protection analysis, substation planning, design, specifications, procurement, and commissioning
- Understand one-lines, three-lines, schematic diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams
- Manage projects, including fiscal control, reporting, and project closeout
- Use technical test equipment and oversee associated data and results
- Provide engineering oversight and technical assistance to field personnel
- Apply applicable electrical engineering standards and regulations
- Develop solutions based on system needs
- Collaborate with engineers and other departments
- Design communications systems, prepare material specifications, cost estimates, justifications, and procurement documents for capital projects
- Perform fiber optic network design, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation
- Maintain microwave, SONET, radio, Ethernet, cellular, and fiber optic communications systems
- Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot DIGI terminal servers, cellular routers, serial communications devices, and related equipment
- Configure, test, and support SEL RTACs, RTUs, and communications equipment for substation automation, distribution automation, and SCADA
- Coordinate with vendors on two-way radio system maintenance, upgrades, and improvements
- Develop and administer communications site, tower, and fiber lease agreements with the Legal department
- Perform radio propagation studies, path design, coverage analysis, and communications performance evaluations
- Install, commission, and maintain communication circuits over ICON and JMUX SONET, IP-based networks, and fiber optic transport systems
- Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls, terminal servers, and utility telecommunications infrastructure
- Support OT communications for substations, distribution automation, AMI infrastructure, and Bulk Electric System facilities
- Maintain communication system drawings, network diagrams, settings files, IP addressing plans, and technical documentation
- Provide technical support for SCADA communications, remote monitoring systems, protective relay communications, RTAC applications, and NERC-CIP communications infrastructure
- Work Monday through Friday, generally 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with extra hours and System Restoration duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS degree in Engineering required
- Related field experience in focus area will be considered
- Experience with PC based software including Excel spreadsheets, AutoCAD, CYME & CAPE preferred
- Identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards
- Maine driver’s license required
- Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency
- Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Able to deal with ambiguity, multiple projects and competing priorities
- Ability to sit, stand, drive, and walk on uneven terrain
- Routine work outside required
- Strong concentration and organizational skills
- Extra hours required
- Must be available for designated System Restoration duties
