About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a single air traffic control facility
  • Ensure facility operations comply with military, FAA, ICAO, DOD, and host nation rules and regulations
  • Supervise subordinate work and duty schedules
  • Ensure operational readiness of facility equipment and associated NAVAIDs
  • Develop and maintain the facility training program and training manual
  • Maintain current regulations, manuals, charts, maps, and training materials
  • Ensure controllers meet physical standards and maintain training currency
  • Ensure facility reporting requirements are accurate and complete
  • Ensure local directives and operating procedures are followed
  • Maintain custodial control of facility forms, records, publications, and distribution
  • Conduct testing and practical evaluations for controller qualification ratings
  • Administer written examinations and conduct skill evaluations for professional controllers
  • Assist and advise controllers during emergencies or distress situations
  • Delegate responsibility to subordinates
  • Assist the air traffic chief and airfield manager
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned by the air traffic chief

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a USN with a SECRET security clearance
  • Must be a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified Air Traffic Controller
  • At least 8 years of experience
  • Must maintain a current FAA Class II Flight Physical Certificate
  • Graduate of a US military air traffic control school or FAA Academy
  • Facility rated and completed facility management and administration training for the assigned facility
  • Familiarity with FAA, ICAO, and military air traffic control and aviation concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Working knowledge of aviation flight planning and Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) systems
  • Computer skills and ability to operate a variety of computer programs
  • Fluent spoken, read, and written English
  • Valid home-country driver’s license valid for 12 months from on-site employment date
  • Valid home-country passport valid for 12 months from on-site employment date
  • Ability to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations
  • Must meet United States Department of Defense medical requirements to live and work at Ascension Island
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to work night and day shifts in an austere environment
  • Some heavy lifting may be required
  • Ability to work long hours and in weather and hazardous conditions
  • Must be prepared to move on short notice and under adverse conditions
