About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set and hold the code review bar and raise software quality standards
  • Build and drive the AI-assisted development pipeline and agentic harnesses
  • Evaluate technical approaches through R&D and spikes and bring useful solutions to the team
  • Manage technical debt and resilience, including retiring legacy code
  • Own the canonical healthcare data model for patients, encounters, providers, claims, and clinical events
  • Own the semantic terminology service, platform APIs, and datasets used by application and analytics layers
  • Set standards for data quality, lineage, and standardization
  • Build provenance so clinical or financial decision outputs can be traced to source
  • Make data-side decisions in the Architecture Review Board
  • Design ingestion and ETL for HL7 v2, FHIR, claims, and third-party data
  • Work with federated query engines such as Trino and multi-source ingestion patterns
  • Optimize pipelines for throughput, cost, reliability, and latency
  • Own root cause analysis when data feeds fail
  • Build operable, reusable ingestion patterns that engineering teams can run across clients
  • Collaborate with engineering, AI engineering, product and delivery, and implementations teams
  • Report to the CIO

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years in software and data engineering
  • 4+ years hands-on building and operating production systems on a team that reviewed each other's code
  • Strong current Python and SQL
  • Hands-on HL7 v2 and FHIR experience with real EHR and claims data
  • Experience designing canonical data models, schemas, and ETL at scale across multiple source systems
  • Experience setting and holding a code review bar
  • Comfortable leading through influence without direct reports
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tooling
  • Cloud data platform experience, ideally Azure
  • Working knowledge of PHIPA, PIPEDA, or HIPAA as they bear on health data
  • Preferred: experience with Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, or InterSystems
  • Preferred: HL7 v3, C-CDA, IHE, DICOM, or X12 claims files such as CCLF
  • Preferred: SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, or OMOP CDM
  • Preferred: familiarity with the Canadian digital health landscape, including Ontario Health, provincial health information exchanges, or Canada Health Infoway
  • Strong communication skills
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
