About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work closely with product, design, and engineering colleagues to turn opportunities into working products and validate them with users
- Turn agreed product scope into working products
- Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and integrations
- Contribute to frontend development, prototyping, product exploration, and user validation
- Apply and improve advanced AI-assisted workflows across development, testing, and validation
- Integrate AI-driven capabilities into products where they add user value
- Use data, user insights, and hypotheses to guide implementation and evaluate outcomes
- Improve security, performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Contribute to deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and operation
- Take responsibility for delivered software in production
- Share knowledge and help colleagues across role boundaries
- Help shape the AI Lab's evolution from an experimental lab into an established structure with ongoing product responsibilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience using AI across substantial parts of product delivery, beyond individual coding generation
- Strong backend engineering expertise in Rust and Node.js/TypeScript
- Willingness to work across languages as the product requires
- Experience in service and data design, APIs, and integrations
- Ability to make architecture trade-offs and deliver reliable, secure software using automated testing, debugging, and production observability
- Experience contributing beyond backend engineering across frontend development, prototyping, design exploration, testing, and validation with users
- Experience with advanced AI-native workflows, such as agent-based or specification-driven development
- Ability to structure work for AI, provide context, evaluate resulting software, and take accountability for production output
- Experience in a product organisation and cross-functional teams with product managers and designers
- Ability to use data and user insights to test hypotheses, validate value, and take shared responsibility for outcomes after release
- Curiosity, ownership, willingness to challenge existing practices, and knowledge sharing
