About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel
- Maintain the exterior of the building, sidewalks, parking lot, common areas, guest-room equipment, facilities, structures, and systems
- Conduct monthly safety inspections and train staff on safety and emergency procedures
- Work with vendors, contractors, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, building code officials, planning/zoning officials, and community design committees
- Respond to emergencies
- Support corporate maintenance on special remodeling projects and capital expenditure needs
- Review contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements
- Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects
- Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to resolve work procedures, complaints, and construction problems during property openings
- Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients
- Plan, organize, and direct maintenance activities
- Prepare and submit budget estimates and progress and cost-tracking reports
- Develop and implement quality-control programs
- Inspect and review projects for compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations
- Maintain communications with the Home Office Team
- Coach and counsel employees to reflect Virgin service standards and procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6 years or more of progressive hotel or building management experience
- At least 6 years’ experience in a senior role within facility management or hotel or building engineering
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Current, legal and unrestricted ability to work in the United States
- Previous hotel pre-opening experience preferred for opening hotels
- Overall maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting ability
- Skills in painting, HVAC, carpentry, equipment, and tool usage
- Experience managing utility systems
- Prior equipment specifying and purchasing experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and with others
- Ability to respond to emergencies
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- Service-oriented style with professional presentation skills
- Proven leadership skills
- High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leadership, effective communication, exceptional customer service, and ability to improve the bottom line
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate in English with guests, management, and co-workers in person and by telephone
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
