About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on commercial agreements, including fuel supply agreements, waste supply and feedstock contracts, service agreements, maintenance contracts, consultancy agreements, procurement and supplier contracts, framework agreements, and terms and conditions
  • Support commercial and procurement teams throughout contract negotiations
  • Identify and mitigate contractual, commercial and operational risks
  • Advise internal stakeholders on contractual obligations and dispute avoidance
  • Assist with contract lifecycle management and contract governance processes
  • Provide practical legal support on business projects and strategic initiatives
  • Support compliance activities and internal policy development
  • Liaise with external counsel where required
  • Assist the wider legal team on ad hoc commercial, regulatory and corporate matters
  • Work closely with commercial, operational, procurement and management teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales
  • 2-4 PQE would be ideal
  • Experience in private practice or in-house
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Excellent contract drafting and communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • Pragmatic and commercially focused approach to legal advice
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with confidence to engage directly with operational and commercial teams
  • Previous in-house legal experience is desirable
  • Experience in the energy, utilities, waste management, infrastructure, engineering or manufacturing sectors is desirable
  • Familiarity with fuel supply agreements, procurement contracts, logistics agreements or industrial services contracts is desirable
  • Experience advising on supplier and operational contracts in a regulated environment is desirable
  • Commercially astute and solutions-oriented
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proactive, practical and capable of working with limited supervision
  • Able to build relationships across all levels of the business
  • Team player with a positive and collaborative mindset
  • A valid UK driving licence is required for occasional site visits
