About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Safely and efficiently operate and maintain a 2x1 combined-cycle power generation facility using Siemens 501F combustion turbines, a Siemens KN steam turbine, and Siemens T3000 controls.
  • Serve as the Continuous Emissions Monitoring system expert, including CGAs, linearities, and fuel gas calibrations.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and resolve electrical faults in breakers and controllers.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate high-voltage breakers, transformers, pumps, motors, transmitters, alarm systems, monitoring and recording equipment, phone/public address systems, pressure switches, solenoid valves, and limit switches.
  • Identify equipment issues and write work orders documenting required repairs.
  • Prepare equipment for service after repairs.
  • Maintain and revise electrical and controls P&IDs and panel schedules.
  • Research and coordinate with vendors and site administrative staff for parts procurement.
  • Oversee electrical contractors during day-to-day and outage work.
  • Perform instrumentation and controls work involving the Siemens T3000 distributed controls system.
  • Complete failure reporting and document time and materials in Maximo.
  • Develop operational knowledge of plant processes and operate equipment within specifications.
  • Respond to unit trips, abnormal operating conditions, callouts, emergent situations, and outages to maintain safe plant operation.
  • Work overtime, weekends, and schedules determined by site management as needed.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • 4-6 years' experience in industrial environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of proper procedures to clean electrical motors (DC and AC), make electrical connections on DC, single and three phase AC circuits, and perform "PM" inspections.
  • General knowledge and/or understanding of station high voltage switching and relaying equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with general electrical and mechanical abilities for equipment repair, replacement, station mechanical operations and minor modification projects required.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal/written communication skills.
  • All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining 480 V electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining 4160 V electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining 18 KV electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining 230 KV electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting instrumentation and controls preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with combined cycle plant process and equipment preferred.
  • Two year Electrical/Mechanical Technology Degree.
  • Prior Siemens 501F Combustion turbine experience preferred.
  • Prior Siemens KN Steam turbine experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in proper rigging, signaling, and crane/hoist operations.
  • Demonstrated experience using hand tools and standard technical shop test equipment, including I&E test instruments and volt/ohm meters.
  • Demonstrated experience operating electric plant water treatment systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance on powerhouse equipment such as air compressors, heat exchangers, piping, turbines, and valves.
  • Demonstrated experience with microprocessor-based systems, distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, smart relays, smart transmitters, station databases and workstations, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs.
  • Ability to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and color variations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings, specifically P&IDs.
  • Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, push buttons, dials, valves, and mechanically actuated devices.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout and personal protective equipment procedures.
  • Must pass respiratory physical and wear required safety equipment.
  • Must possess team awareness and team relationship skills.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, high noise, dust, fumes, confined spaces, at heights, and around pressurized and energized equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and walking on grating surfaces.
  • Must attend on-site and off-site training.
  • Must have a valid driver license and operate station vehicles and heavy equipment.
