About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Safely and efficiently operate and maintain a 2x1 combined-cycle power-generation facility using Siemens 501F combustion turbines and a Siemens KN steam turbine with Siemens T3000 controls
  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures, including lockout/tagout, job safety analysis, confined space, hot work, electrical safety, and PPE
  • Serve as Continuous Emissions Monitoring system expert, including CGAs, linearities, and fuel-gas calibrations
  • Perform electrical maintenance and resolve electrical faults in breakers and controllers
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate high-voltage breakers, transformers, pumps, motors, transmitters, alarm systems, monitoring and recording equipment, phone/public-address systems, pressure switches, solenoid valves, and limit switches
  • Identify and resolve equipment issues and write work orders documenting required work
  • Prepare equipment for service after repairs
  • Maintain and revise electrical and controls P&IDs and panel schedules
  • Research and coordinate with vendors and site administrative staff for parts procurement
  • Oversee electrical contractors for day-to-day and outage work
  • Work with Siemens T3000 instrumentation and controls distributed control system
  • Complete failure reporting and document time and materials in Maximo
  • Develop understanding of plant processes and take appropriate action when problems are discovered
  • Gain operational knowledge of plant systems and operate equipment within specifications
  • Respond to unit trips, abnormal operating conditions, callouts, and outages to maintain safe plant operation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
  • 4-6 years' experience in industrial environment required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedures to clean electrical motors (DC and AC), make electrical connections on DC, single-phase and three-phase AC circuits, and perform PM inspections
  • General knowledge and/or understanding of station high-voltage switching and relaying equipment
  • Demonstrated general electrical and mechanical abilities for equipment repair, replacement, station mechanical operations, and minor modification projects
  • Demonstrated effective verbal/written communication skills
  • Must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS/MASS) program
  • Ability to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and color variations
  • Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings, specifically P&IDs
  • Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, push buttons, dials, valves, and mechanically actuated devices
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout and personal protective equipment procedures
  • Must pass respiratory physical and wear required safety equipment
  • Must possess team awareness and team relationship skills
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, lift up to 50 pounds, work at extreme heights, and work in confined spaces
  • Must attend on-site and off-site training
  • Must have a valid driver license and be able to operate station vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Two-year Electrical/Mechanical Technology Degree (desired)
  • Experience with 480 V, 4160 V, 18 KV, and 230 KV electrical equipment (desired)
  • Experience maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting instrumentation and controls (preferred)
  • Experience with combined-cycle plant processes and equipment (preferred)
  • Prior Siemens 501F combustion turbine experience (preferred)
  • Prior Siemens KN steam turbine experience (preferred)
  • Experience with rigging, signaling, and crane/hoist operations
  • Experience using hand tools and technical shop test equipment
  • Experience operating electric plant water-treatment systems
  • Mechanical maintenance experience on powerhouse equipment
  • Experience with microprocessor-based systems, distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, smart relays, smart transmitters, station databases, workstations, databases, spreadsheets, and word-processing programs
  • Position may be filled at level I, II, III, or IV depending on experience and skill
