About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine and emergency maintenance on plant instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Work scheduled shifts, weekends, holidays, call-outs, outages, and emergent situations as needed
- Troubleshoot and resolve plant instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical system issues
- Inspect, repair, install, and remove motors, generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, motor control equipment, cabling, buswork, and storage batteries
- Tune and calibrate boiler controls and turbine controls and valve actuators
- Maintain and calibrate plant instrumentation
- Document and maintain instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical maintenance records
- Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems in accordance with state and federal guidelines
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electronic, pneumatic, analyzer, computer, PLC, and instrumentation systems
- Maintain and repair rotating equipment including pumps, mechanical seals, turbines, generators, fans, bearings, gaskets, couplings, and related equipment
- Maintain heat recovery steam generators, piping systems, valves, actuators, flanges, hangers, and oil systems
- Keep electrical and controls P&IDs current and revise them as necessary
- Research and coordinate with vendors and site administrative staff for parts procurement
- Work with GE Mark VI, GE RX3i, and Allen Bradley PLC systems
- Gain operational knowledge of plant systems and operate equipment within specifications, including standing in as a balance-of-plant operator when needed
- Respond to unit trips and abnormal operating conditions to maintain safe equipment operation
- Operate and maintain equipment at a 1200 MW combined-cycle power generation facility
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 4–6 years of experience in an industrial environment required
- Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
- Knowledge of electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts
- Knowledge of station high-voltage switching and relaying equipment
- General electrical and mechanical abilities for equipment repair, replacement, station mechanical operations, and minor modification projects
- General knowledge or understanding of instrumentation calibrations
- Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS/MASS) program required
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings, specifically P&IDs
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout and personal protective equipment procedures
- Must pass respiratory physical and wear required safety equipment
- Ability to operate keyboards, push buttons, dials, valves, and mechanically actuated devices
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces, at heights, and around energized equipment
- Must attend on-site and off-site training
- Valid driver license and ability to operate station vehicles and heavy equipment
- Preferred: experience maintaining electrical equipment up to 4160 V, 18 KV, and 230 KV
- Preferred: experience maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting instrumentation and controls
- Preferred: combined-cycle plant process and equipment experience
- Preferred: two-year Electrical/Mechanical Technology Degree
- Preferred: GE 7FA combustion turbine and GE D11 steam turbine experience
- Experience with rigging, signaling, crane/hoist operations, hand tools, technical shop test equipment, water treatment systems, powerhouse mechanical equipment, microprocessor-based systems, PLCs, smart relays, smart transmitters, databases, workstations, and office software
