About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on plant instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plant instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical systems issues.
  • Inspect, repair, install, and remove motors, generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, motor control equipment, cabling, buswork, and storage batteries up to 4160 volts.
  • Tune and calibrate boiler controls and turbine controls and valve actuators.
  • Maintain and calibrate plant instrumentation.
  • Document and maintain instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical maintenance records.
  • Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electronic, pneumatic, analyzer, computer, PLC, and instrumentation systems.
  • Maintain and repair rotating equipment, pumps, mechanical seals, turbines, generators, fans, bearings, gaskets, couplings, and related equipment.
  • Maintain heat recovery steam generators, piping systems, valves, actuators, and oil systems.
  • Locate, troubleshoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment.
  • Keep electrical and controls P&IDs current and revise them as necessary.
  • Coordinate with vendors and site administrative staff for parts procurement.
  • Gain operational knowledge of plant systems and operate equipment within specifications; stand in as a BOP operator when needed.
  • Respond to unit trips, abnormal operating conditions, call-outs, emergent situations, and outages.
  • Work scheduled shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • 4-6 years' experience in industrial environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in cleaning electrical motors, making DC and single- and three-phase AC electrical connections, and performing PM inspections.
  • General knowledge and/or understanding of station high-voltage switching and relaying equipment.
  • Demonstrated general electrical and mechanical abilities for equipment repair, replacement, station mechanical operations, and minor modification projects.
  • General knowledge and/or understanding of instrumentation calibrations.
  • Successful candidate on the POSS/MASS program required.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining electrical equipment up to 4160 V.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout and PPE safety procedures.
  • Must pass respiratory physical and wear required safety equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings, specifically P&IDs.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to operate keyboards, push buttons, dials, valves, and mechanically actuated devices.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, high noise, dust, fumes, confined spaces, heights, and around pressurized and energized equipment.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in tight areas.
  • Must attend on-site and off-site training.
  • Must have a valid driver license and be able to operate station vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Desired: Two-year Electrical/Mechanical Technology Degree.
  • Desired: GE 7FA combustion turbine and GE D11 steam turbine experience.
  • Desired: Experience with combined-cycle plant processes and equipment, instrumentation/control calibration, 18 KV and 230 KV equipment, rigging, cranes/hoists, water treatment systems, powerhouse mechanical equipment, microprocessor-based systems, PLCs, and standard technical test equipment.
