About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build Vitalize’s AI-first design workflow from exploration and prototyping through production
Establish design best practices, workflows, and quality standards
Use AI daily to explore, prototype, and test ideas, then bring strong directions to production quality
Lead design for complex, cross-cutting product areas from discovery through launch
Shape long-term product vision with Product and Engineering leadership
Design intuitive, data-dense operational tools for staffing teams, unit managers, and frontline clinicians
Determine how AI recommendations, reasoning, and actions appear in products so users can trust and act on them
Visit hospitals, observe workflows, lead research, and translate findings into product decisions and strategy
Influence the roadmap by identifying workflow opportunities and connecting design decisions to customer and business outcomes
Mentor designers, lead critique, and build team practices, rituals, and quality standards
Set design direction for strategic product areas and help define how Vitalize designs as it scales

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of product design experience
Significant experience designing complex, workflow-heavy B2B SaaS products
Portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of high-impact, ambiguous problems, from problem definition through shipped product and measurable outcomes
AI is already central to your design workflow, with a clear point of view on where it speeds up the process, where it falls short, and how to keep quality high
Experience designing AI-powered products where AI makes recommendations or takes action
Exceptional product instincts and craft
Ability to set direction and align product, engineering, and leadership around a design vision backed by evidence
Comfortable observing operational workflows firsthand in hospitals
Experience building or leading the evolution of a design system
Experience mentoring designers, leading critique, and shaping design-team practices
Ability to travel for the role
Ability to work from the San Francisco office in alignment with the hybrid work model
Willingness to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area, if applicable
US work authorization or eligibility to obtain it
