About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and lead a grants management function for the full pre- and post-award cycle of restricted grants
- Establish compliance processes for budgeting, donor regulations, reporting, and grant-specific audits
- Design and maintain the organizational cost model, including cost segments, allocation methodology, and indirect cost structure
- Price restricted proposals at full cost and support proposal budgets, grant terms, and award negotiations
- Establish and manage sub-award and contract compliance frameworks for foreign partnerships
- Lead financial and compliance components of U.S. government and institutional funding, including SAM.gov registration, Uniform Guidance compliance, reporting, audit readiness, and closeout
- Remediate international control exposure and establish country-level financial policies
- Design country finance infrastructure, including entity structure, banking, and controls
- Establish treasury protocols to mitigate foreign-exchange risk and optimize currency conversion
- Develop a scalable international finance operating model and recommend future staffing, systems, and organizational structure
- Partner on consolidated financial reporting across entities and countries
- Design and roll out time tracking with Controller, FP&A, Programs, and Technology
- Serve as accountable owner for grants management and international finance results
- Report to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and initially supervise an individual contributor
- Travel approximately 30%
Requirements
What you’ll need- 15+ years in nonprofit or NGO finance, with direct experience in institutional or restricted grant management
- Familiarity with 2 CFR 200 or equivalent donor compliance frameworks
- Proven track record managing portfolios of institutional foundation, private philanthropic, and corporate-sponsored grants
- Experience managing or substantially maturing a grants management function
- Experience with international or multi-country financial operations, including country-level banking, entity structures, and field office financial controls
- Working knowledge of cost allocation methodology and indirect cost rate development
- Ability to operate amid ambiguity and build functions from a limited starting point
- CPA or equivalent credential preferred but not required
- Ability to lift or carry approximately 20–40 lbs. regularly
- Ability to remain seated or stationary for extended periods, including prolonged air travel
- Valid passport, necessary travel visas, government-issued identification, and ability to travel internationally
- Ability to walk in conditions associated with foreign travel
- Ability to receive necessary vaccines and medication for travel to certain countries
