About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design complex actuators, specialized igniters, pressure vessels, solid rocket motor systems, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters
  • Conduct actuator performance analysis, trade-off analysis, simulations, structural, dynamic, and thermal analysis
  • Create advanced 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings
  • Interpret GD&T symbols and provide guidance on dimensional and tolerance requirements
  • Characterize ceramic, insulator, refractory metal, and advanced metal materials
  • Optimize designs, select manufacturing materials and processes, and specify quality-control checks including NDT methods
  • Lead assembly, composite fabrication, machining, molding, casting, and welding activities
  • Develop and execute testing, including component integration, measurement instrumentation, calibration, test-data acquisition, statistical analysis, and visualization
  • Conduct mass estimation, requirements analysis, risk management, failure-mode analysis, and reliability and safety planning
  • Support procurement, vendor evaluation, supplier-performance analysis, contract management, and schedule management
  • Analyze grain design, propellant chemistry, combustion, internal ballistics, and solid propellant manufacturing
  • Design basic control systems and contribute to avionics, ignition, wiring-harness, circuit-board, and software-design activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Bachelor of Science required in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR
  • Rocket motor design and testing experience preferred
  • Master of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline preferred
  • Able to travel approximately 10% of the time
  • Positive, cooperative, self-motivated, and professional behavior preferred
