About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform project engineering tasks independently on fast-paced programs
- Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase, or multi-contract defense and aerospace programs
- Provide people leadership and management support for an engineering technical team of approximately 10 engineers
- Define and guide system architecture, integration, and verification strategies
- Oversee engineering execution across multiple Integrated Product Teams and major subcontractors
- Ensure technical, cost, and schedule compliance
- Lead technical baseline definition, configuration management, system integration planning, and major design and integration reviews
- Chair or support SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR reviews
- Ensure readiness and compliance with technical performance metrics
- Serve as primary engineering interface to executive management and Department of Defense customers
- Support technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews
- Manage and approve Statements of Work, subcontractor technical deliverables, and supplier design inputs
- Develop and implement risk and opportunity management frameworks
- Mentor, coach, and provide technical oversight to project engineers and functional leads
- Support proposal development, cost estimation, and new business capture
- Enforce systems engineering standards, model-based engineering practices, and configuration control
- Drive engineering process improvements, knowledge management, and best practices
- Report to the Director of Engineering within the Controllable Solid Propulsion department
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university; Master’s Degree preferred
- Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Fifteen (15) years of project engineering experience
- Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk-based engineering approaches
- Ability to lead technical execution across multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and major subcontractors
- Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, including engagement with executive and customer audiences
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent engineering management and project planning tools
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members in a professional engineering environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level
- Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System leadership experience preferred
- Functional management of small, highly technical teams preferred
- Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time
- Must meet applicable U.S. Government export control requirements, including ITAR/EAR eligibility
- Must be a U.S. Person: a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)
- Must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations
