About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations of hydrogen production plants
- Collaborate with engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance, and quality assurance teams
- Liaise with leadership, stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies
- Develop P&IDs and implement project specifications
- Assist with project scheduling and engineering and capital cost estimates
- Prepare technical specifications, instrument data sheets, requisition quotes, and bid evaluations
- Perform instrument design calculations
- Configure reports and maintain instrument databases
- Review vendor drawings against industry codes and standards
- Design control panels, I/O drawings, communication networks, junction box wiring, location diagrams, and cable schedules
- Prepare control narratives, philosophy documents, and scopes of work for instrument and control contractors
- Prepare shutdown keys and cause-and-effect matrices
- Program, commission, and start up control systems
- Maintain professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Controls, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Sciences; graduate degree preferred
- Certified Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta (APEGA)
- 5–10 years of relevant work experience in the oil and gas industry and chemical process design, focused on pressurized systems and high-temperature hydrocarbon pyrolysis
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in EPC companies is an asset
- Process safety and functional safety (IEC 61511) is an asset
- Strong ability to track progress and prepare status reports
- Ability to use judgment to solve problems based on engineering guidelines and procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism
- Self-motivated, able to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to perform and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AVEVA, Elecdes, InTools, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and similar engineering software
- PLC, DCS, HMI, RTU, and SCADA programming proficiency is an asset, including Allen-Bradley, DeltaV, GE, Modicon, ABB 800XA, and Honeywell Experion/PKS
- Familiarity with CEC, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, and other engineering codes and standards
- Required to occasionally travel to the field for project scoping, commissioning, and as-building
- Knowledge of project management principles and management of change is an asset
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
