About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Promote culturally centered health and wellness initiatives incorporating Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and community strengths
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver programming promoting healthy eating, active living, and commercial tobacco prevention
  • Design and implement curricula, community events, educational materials, and programs
  • Promote traditional and contemporary healthy eating practices, active living, commercial tobacco prevention and cessation, and Wabanaki worldview, teachings, and languages
  • Collect data and community feedback to measure program outcomes using culturally appropriate evaluation methods
  • Build relationships with Tribal schools, youth programs, childcare centers, Elders, knowledge sharers, and community partners
  • Implement Maine Nourish ME program deliverables according to Maine DHHS and UNE requirements
  • Design and disseminate social media and printed flyers
  • Attend required trainings and meetings in person and online
  • Complete reporting and evaluation related to deliverables
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field (preferred) or high school diploma with 4 years of experience in a related field
  • Preferred Indigenous lived experience or experience working with indigenous communities
  • Experience with Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, Word and more
  • A current driver's license, a good driving record and access to reliable transportation are required
  • Willingness to travel and maintain a flexible work schedule for occasional weekend or evening events
  • Ability to work effectively as a team and independently
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and enthusiasm
  • Must pass criminal background check
