About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and consolidated reporting
- Improve close speed and cleanliness while minimizing post-close adjustments
- Build and run an AI and automation roadmap for reconciliations, anomaly detection, and control testing
- Integrate AI into at least half of accounting processes by the end of the first year
- Clean up and optimize the general ledger in QuickBooks
- Lead selection of the ERP for the company's next stage of growth
- Manage the accounting team with clear service levels and documented processes
- Determine which accounting activities should be brought in-house
- Improve cash reporting and strengthen cash controls and processes with the Finance Manager
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Client Success, and Sales to improve billing and revenue data flows
- Reduce billing errors, disputes, and manual rework
- Lead the annual audit and manage the auditor relationship
- Build a control framework including key controls, reconciliations, and segregation of duties
- Oversee accurate and timely investor, tax, and external reporting
- Oversee federal and state tax reporting with external tax advisors
- Partner with business owners across Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering, Operations, and Customer Success
- Report to the VP Finance
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years in accounting roles with increasing responsibility, including experience leading people
- CPA required
- Deep US GAAP expertise
- Knowledge of revenue recognition, consolidations, and accruals
- Hands-on experience selecting AI tools, choosing use cases, measuring payoff, and managing data privacy and accuracy risks
- Experience building controls and leading audits
- Experience building scalable documentation and controls
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills with Engineering, Product, Sales, and Client Success
- Experience leading an external team
- Experience leading people through major changes such as a new system or process
- Experience with insurance, insurance-adjacent, or subscription and benefits businesses is a plus
- Experience with QuickBooks is preferred
