Drive technical strategy and oversee scalable, high-performance web applications for CNN Digital Commerce
Develop, enhance, and scale platforms such as CNN Underscored
Lead development of customer-facing products and tools powering CNN’s e-commerce initiatives
Drive cross-functional collaboration among engineering, product, and business teams
Improve engineering workflows, tooling, and processes
Implement and advocate for Scrum or Kanban and continuous delivery practices
Monitor application health, infrastructure, and code performance
Adopt modern technologies and optimize architecture
Ensure long-term maintainability through code reviews and refactoring
Foster technical excellence, continuous learning, and career development

Requirements

What you’ll need

B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred)
10+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership role
Proven track record leading teams responsible for building and scaling e-commerce platforms or consumer-facing products
Extensive experience in modern web technologies, with deep expertise in JavaScript (Node.js, Vue.js), TypeScript, Fastly, and Python
Proficiency in AWS cloud services (Serverless/SAM, etc.)
Experience with Docker/Kubernetes containerization
Experience with Terraform and CloudFormation infrastructure management
Strong experience with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis
Experience with high-performance, high-availability applications in production environments
Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire engineers
Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to collaborate with product, design, and business teams
Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and incremental delivery
Experience in non-procedural programming or functional-style programming concepts (bonus)
Previous involvement in e-commerce, affiliate platforms, or consumer media applications (bonus)
Experience mentoring junior engineers, conducting technical interviews, and contributing to talent acquisition (bonus)
