About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate and perform professional billing activities, including notify, consent, and good faith estimates in Epic in accordance with the No Surprise Billing Act
  • Use Epic WQs, reports, and modules/applications for self-pay services, uninsured patients, and patients with non-contracted plans
  • Process applicable pre-service payments
  • Assist with out-of-network authorization and single case agreement processes
  • Work with the BJC estimate team to provide the professional portion of patient estimates
  • Potentially act as a Lead IBC Assistant
  • Train and guide other IBC Assistants
  • Perform collection follow-up for commercial insurance, self-pay, Medicare, and Medicaid claims
  • Handle discounts, adjustments, and charge corrections
  • Make collection calls to insurance companies and patients
  • Review remittance advices for rejection and payment accuracy
  • Verify charge tickets and attachments for claims to maximize reimbursements
  • Contact insurance companies regarding payment posting and collection agencies regarding payment reports
  • Respond to insurance company questions and requests
  • Support the customer service unit with billing and collection questions
  • Provide backup support for Accounts Receivable staff during peak times, vacations, and illnesses

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience
  • 3 years of billing or insurance work experience
  • Post-secondary education (2 years) preferred
