About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms
  • Prepare charts and obtain reports and records
  • Assist with patient flow and smooth operation of the clinical office
  • Obtain vital signs, conduct EKGs, perform phlebotomy and verify medications
  • Schedule tests and prepare exam rooms for office hours
  • Assist with examinations, procedures and lab tests
  • Assist with renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications under standing orders and department guidelines
  • Administer physician- or nurse-practitioner-ordered medications, including vaccines and intramuscular/subcutaneous injections
  • Direct patient flow and assist with special procedures and treatments
  • Complete requisitions and route phone messages, patient questions and telephone communications
  • Support care coordination by calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, surgeries, diagnostic procedures and admissions, and monitoring patient contacts and follow-ups
  • Complete paperwork and documentation
  • Answer basic patient/family questions regarding treatments, diagnoses and procedures
  • Monitor supply inventory and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments
  • Participate in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, cross-training and quality improvement activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with six months of related work experience; related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers
  • Medical Assistant credentials must be obtained from in-person proctored exams from NHA, AAMA or AMT; other in-person proctored credentials may be accepted upon Human Resources approval
  • Substitution: graduate of an accredited nursing program, such as RN/LPN, or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of one year of relevant experience
  • Ability to show proof of Medical Assistant certification/registration with successful completion of a certification exam within six months of hire (online proctored exams are insufficient)
  • Basic Life Support certification with a skills assessment component; online-only certifications are insufficient
  • Must comply with HIPAA, OSHA, state and federal regulatory standards
  • Local travel to satellite offices is necessary
  • Preferred: two years of Medical Assistant experience
