About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with oncologic and hematologic conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Evaluate patients, develop individualized treatment plans, manage cancer-related symptoms and treatment toxicities, and coordinate ongoing care
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, consultants, and multidisciplinary care team members
- Obtain patient histories and perform patient assessments through observation, interview, and examination
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies
- Provide preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations, and care
- Provide direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions
- Develop and implement patient-centered plans of care
- Evaluate and manage oncology and hematology patients, including survivorship care, supportive care, and treatment-plan coordination
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of patient medical records and maintain required reports, records, and statistics
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families
- Manage health conditions through prescriptive authority or referral to healthcare providers or community resources
- Perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations
- Champion safety and quality of care for patients using ITB therapy and serve as an expert in ITB pump care and management
- Help develop patient education programs and lead quality and safety initiatives
- Serve as clinical expert regarding rehabilitation nursing and manage complex clinical nursing situations with autonomy
- Provide management services for clinical research study projects, including monitoring subjects, medication administration, and family/patient education
- Follow departmental policies, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards
- Participate in continuous quality and process improvement activities
- Enhance professional growth through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops
- Contribute to rehabilitation nursing through research, publications, and presentations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; online certifications without a skills assessment component are not sufficient
- Nurse Practitioner: Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program
- Nurse Practitioner: Advanced Practical Nurse licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire
- Physician Assistant: Graduate of PA program
- Physician Assistant: Current PA licensure to practice in Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire
- Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty
- Prior oncology and/or hematology experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position satisfactorily
- External candidates receiving an offer must complete applicable pre-employment screening, including criminal background check and relevant drug, employment, education or licensure/certification, physical examination, vaccination, and governmental registry checks
