About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of land surveying projects
- Conduct and supervise boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys
- Lead field survey teams, providing technical guidance and mentorship
- Analyze and interpret survey data, legal records, and technical documents
- Prepare and review survey drawings, plats, and legal descriptions
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Utilize surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS, drones, and levels
- Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, and Leica Infinity
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, planners, and construction teams
- Maintain accurate survey records and documentation
- Perform quality control checks and resolve discrepancies or legal boundary issues
- Support proposal preparation and project estimation when required
- Work in a combination of office and field environments, including various weather conditions
- Travel to multiple sites or remote locations as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) required in Montana
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in land surveying
- Strong proficiency in modern surveying tools and software
- Excellent understanding of land laws, boundary resolution, and mapping standards
- Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites
- Experience in construction staking, site development, and GIS
- Drone (UAV) mapping and photogrammetry experience
- Knowledge of local land use regulations and permitting processes
- Familiarity with BIM or 3D modeling is a plus
