About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform and, depending on experience, lead engineering planning and design for water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure
- Design treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, storage facilities, and related site improvements
- Prepare engineering calculations and evaluate design alternatives for hydraulic, treatment, conveyance, and mechanical process systems
- Contribute to hydraulic modeling, system capacity evaluations, infrastructure planning, or treatment process design
- Prepare and coordinate engineering reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineer's cost estimates
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and other project disciplines
- Support permitting and agency coordination
- Apply relevant codes, design standards, regulatory requirements, and client criteria
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews
- Provide construction-phase engineering support through submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, field observations, and contractor coordination
- Coordinate assigned work with project managers and technical leads, maintaining alignment with project scope, budgets, schedules, and delivery expectations
- Lead design tasks or work packages for experienced engineers
- Provide technical review and guidance and mentor junior engineers and designers
- Support project management activities as assigned
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, and coordination across WWE offices
- Develop technical expertise and professional capabilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution
- Experience relevant to municipal water/wastewater infrastructure
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- California PE registration strongly preferred; registration requirements depend on assigned responsibilities
- Relevant engineering experience appropriate to the position level
- Demonstrated design experience in water or wastewater treatment facilities, hydraulic analysis and modeling, pipelines and conveyance, pump stations and storage facilities, or mechanical process piping and equipment systems
- Ability to prepare engineering calculations and technical documents and contribute to coordinated design deliverables
- Familiarity with applicable engineering standards, construction practices, and regulatory requirements
- California municipal or utility project experience preferred
- Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, hydraulic modeling platforms, and Microsoft Office
- For senior-level consideration, experience leading engineering design, reviewing technical work, coordinating disciplines, mentoring staff, or managing project scope, schedules, and budgets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and ability to work independently while collaborating within an established project team
- Willingness to perform office and fieldwork and travel for project site visits, client meetings, and coordination with other offices as needed
