About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the organization’s accounting functions through accurate and timely maintenance of financial records and compliance with funding sources, tax codes, and accounting principles
  • Drive proactive and assigned process improvement projects
  • Collaborate with Property and Asset Management as a finance leader and trusted advisor
  • Analyze financial data, provide reports and communicate financial statements, and keep senior management informed of the organization’s financial status
  • Lead accounting closings, financial statements, and audit exercises
  • Oversee and collaborate on general ledger activity, including journal entries, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
  • Independently perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end general ledger close
  • Review disbursements and cash receipts for proper cost center and general ledger allocation
  • Manage cash flow and bank activity, including Rental Assistance and Property and Asset Management departments
  • Participate in developing and applying administrative cost allocation procedures
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with staff, funding sources, constituents, and stakeholders
  • Identify and inform the Controller/leadership about matters affecting funding, financial status, or potential inquiries
  • Remain current on accounting principles, monetary/fiscal laws, and related regulations
  • Onboard, evaluate, mentor, and support employees
  • Hire staff and manage performance plans and development
  • Provide support to supervisory-level employees
  • Supervise managers, specialists, accountants, clerks, support staff, and temporary workers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting
  • 5 years' progressively responsible equivalent accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • 3 years’ mid-level supervisory experience
  • Preference for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Property management and/or real estate development accounting experience is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and Adobe
  • Comfort learning new technologies
  • Familiarity with government regulations and reporting requirements for non-profit organizations
  • Ability to assess priorities, organize, and operate in a flexible manner while retaining a high level of attention-to-detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and outside contacts
