About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Minimize the net cost of serving WEC Energy Group retail and wholesale electric load obligations
Maximize the value of owned and contracted generation resources while supporting reliable bulk electric system operations
Evaluate generator availability and performance and update generation resource offers for Day Ahead and Real Time markets
Support NERC, RFC, MRO, and MISO reliability requirements
Dispatch owned and contracted generation resources in real time on a 24x7 basis
Forecast system loads using load, weather, and historical data
Create demand bids for Day Ahead and Real Time markets
Optimize the WEC Energy Group net asset portfolio, including load assets, generation assets, financial transmission rights, and other financial instruments
Coordinate with Electric System Operations, Green Bay Remote Operations, power plants, MISO, ATC, and other business partners
Coordinate generation unit availability, maintenance, and outage requirements
Develop understanding of solar, battery, and other complex energy resources
Operate computer applications for market operations, settlement, planning, monitoring, and reporting
Maintain expertise in MISO operations and settlement practices, NERC standards, and RFC/MRO requirements
Perform duties consistent with FERC rules and tariffs, Standards of Conduct, and MISO Market Monitoring and Mitigation requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s Degree, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in generation, bulk electric system operations, and/or wholesale electric markets
Strong analytical and computer skills
Ability to thrive in a fast paced, continuously changing work environment
Ability to deal with stressful situations effectively and make quick decisions, sometimes with limited information
NERC system operator certification required or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months
Applicants must satisfy company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, including a background investigation
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible for hire
