About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide strategic leadership for Wellstar's system Credentials Verification Organization (CVO)
  • Lead and maintain a high-quality, comprehensive credentialing and privileging program
  • Oversee credentialing and privileging for Medical Staff, Advanced Practice Professionals, and Allied Health Professionals across Wellstar entities
  • Ensure applications comply with Medical Staff Bylaws, Joint Commission and NCQA standards, CMS, and state/federal regulations
  • Analyze credentialing information and maintain current electronic credential files
  • Oversee communication with applicants regarding membership and privileging
  • Liaise with Wellstar Legal and Risk Management on credentialing matters
  • Maintain regulatory and accreditation readiness and identify required policy or bylaw amendments
  • Serve as liaison among Medical Staff, Administration, Senior Leadership, attorneys, and other departments
  • Prepare required reports for Medical Staff, Administration, Senior Leadership, and other departments
  • Define departmental goals and objectives with Senior Leadership
  • Manage recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance evaluations, workload, staffing, cross-training, and employee development
  • Conduct department meetings and in-services and resolve staffing issues
  • Develop and coordinate operating and capital budgets
  • Manage budget evaluations, variance reports, action plans, and new or revised programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Management or Health Administration required
  • Additional relevant work experience and/or other specialized training may be used in lieu of the minimum education requirement
  • Minimum 8 years of comprehensive experience as a medical staff services professional within a hospital or CVO setting, with increasing responsibility and supervisory experience
  • Experience using medical staff database technology required
  • CPCS preferred upon hire
  • CPMSM preferred upon hire
  • Working knowledge of medical staff credentialing/privileging processes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of state/federal regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to organized medical staff
  • Documented experience with multiple medical staff departments and committees and supervisory responsibility for five or more support staff
  • Knowledge of medical staff governance, practitioner credentialing and privileging processes, Joint Commission and NCQA standards
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations relevant to medical staff functions
  • Ability to draft revisions to compliance documents
  • Ability to lead, manage, and/or effect change
  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, delegate, organize, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule with frequent interruptions
  • Strong communication, people, problem-solving, presentation, and computer skills
  • Ability to motivate and lead and work with little direct supervision
