About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Greet patients and guests warmly in person or by telephone, following AIDET principles
  • Answer incoming calls, direct calls, take messages in the EHR, handle non-clinical processes, and schedule appointments
  • Communicate with patients about delays or waits for care
  • Work with clinical staff and providers in a team approach
  • Manage patient call wait times, queues, voicemails, and messages
  • Register and schedule patients; verify insurance eligibility through Experion
  • Check in patients, scan insurance cards and IDs into the EHR, and complete paperwork
  • Collect co-pays, outstanding balances, deductibles, and self-pay balances
  • Manage cash allowance, collections, daily balancing, superbills, posting reports, and bank bags
  • Check patients out, arrange payment plans, and schedule follow-up appointments
  • Contact patients for appointment reminders
  • Coordinate with the clinic for pharmaceutical representatives, visitors, sample pick-ups, and other clinic requests
  • Perform other duties assigned by management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma
  • 1–2 years administrative front office experience in a physician practice or health care setting (preferred)
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Computer skills essential
  • Medical terminology including coding needed (CPT-4, ICD-9, and HCPCS)
  • Knowledge of insurance filing and requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language
  • Positive attitude while working in a team setting
