About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise leadership to develop and manage spend categories and strategies
- Lead contract negotiations for complex products or services and suppliers
- Lead sourcing and contracting strategies and expense reduction initiatives
- Deliver long-term, large-scale solutions and ensure accountability for category savings and supplier performance measurements
- Improve category effectiveness and efficiencies
- Provide vision, direction, and expertise to leadership
- Lead structured evaluation of supplier industry, economics, and market conditions
- Define and approve spend categories to determine optimal sequencing, definition, and commodity parameters
- Manage categories or selected groups of vendors across their life cycle, focusing on reducing cost and increasing supplier value
- Advise on long-term needs and applicable supply and service strategies
- Act as primary liaison for current and potential suppliers
- Resolve systemic and recurring supplier and customer issues
- Train, lead, and mentor less experienced staff
- Support risk, compliance, governance, monitoring, escalation, and remediation requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of Sourcing experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
- 10+ years negotiating enterprise Technology and Software contracts
- Deep negotiations experience with IBM's products and services
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contracts
- Deep knowledge of IBM's products and services (Hardware, Software) and negotiating contracts with them
- Comprehensive sourcing and contract negotiation experience with suppliers in Technology categories, such as IT consulting, software, and hosted technology
- Ability to project manage deals and drive results, including engaging and working with legal, financial, and stakeholders
- Strong benchmarking and financial analysis capabilities
- Experience negotiating contracts and sourcing for a large complex organization in a highly regulated environment
- Proficiency with web-based contract management, strategic sourcing (RFx), and reverse auction tools, including Ariba
- Experience managing third-party relationships and conducting business reviews
- Ability to provide leadership by coaching, training, and mentoring
- Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong listening skills to distinguish true client needs and influence sustainable outcomes
- Strong Excel skills, with emphasis on modeling
- Strong PowerPoint skills, including distilling complicated issues for executives
- Excellent business and financial acumen to apply supply chain and operations for cost optimization
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
