About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Contribute to a positive environment for patients and staff
- Participate in problem-solving activities and support patient care under provider direction
- Act as liaison between patients and providers
- Follow designated provider and document patient charts as directed
- Control patient flow in the exam area and prioritize tasks to minimize wait times
- Maintain professional behavior toward patients, visitors, and coworkers
- Keep exam rooms neat and clean
- Review and prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments
- Ensure health maintenance appointments, pending labs, and referral appointments are completed and documented
- Ensure patients comply with recommended health guidelines
- Update flowsheets
- Measure vital signs and perform reason-for-visit and review-of-systems assessments
- Review medications and lab results with patients
- Perform EKGs and blood glucose diagnostics as directed
- Administer routine vaccinations and maintain vaccination logs
- Prepare and administer medications or injections as directed
- Set up and assist providers with GYN exams and small outpatient procedures
- Process prescriptions and refill requests
- Document patient charts, contacts, and progress in the EHR
- Provide patient education
- Assist the front desk with answering phones when needed
- Attend educational offerings and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current documentation of completion of Nursing Assistant course, Certified Nursing Assistant license issued by the state of Florida, or current certification as a Medical Assistant
- Annual updates for continuing education to maintain licensure or certification as required by the State of Florida
- Cross-training in electronic medical records and Microsoft Outlook
- One year general medical experience required
- Ability to work within a pediatric setting
- Knowledge of FL Shots/the VFC program
- Ability to track growth of a child
- Level 2 background clearance required
- Proof of immunizations for Tdap, two MMR vaccinations, Hepatitis B vaccination, and either history of chickenpox (varicella) or documentation of varicella vaccine
- PPD test completed once upon hire
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, function with minimal supervision, and think critically and logically
- May occasionally need to travel from one clinic to another for coverage
