About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze statistical data and apply mathematical models to assess risk, price insurance products, and support financial soundness
- Develop and maintain actuarial models estimating reserves, premiums, and liabilities across lines of business
- Design, build, and validate predictive pricing models for property and casualty and reinsurance lines
- Maintain end-to-end pricing pipelines from raw data ingestion and feature engineering through training, validation, deployment, and monitoring
- Apply credibility theory, loss development, trend analysis, and exposure rating to produce rate indications
- Develop pricing tools for price adequacy, rate change measurement, and portfolio segmentation
- Automate pricing workflows and reporting using Python, R, or SQL
- Maintain model, code, and assumption documentation and version control
- Perform rate indications for assigned states and programs using loss ratio, pure premium, and experience rating approaches
- Recommend rate actions considering profitability, competitiveness, and regulatory feasibility
- Research peer filings and develop rates for emerging or data-sparse segments
- Perform portfolio-level and individual account/treaty pricing analyses across property, casualty, specialty, and reinsurance
- Support review and pricing of new programs, facultative submissions, and treaty structures
- Identify profitable growth areas and underperforming segments for re-underwriting, contraction, or exit
- Monitor rate change, price adequacy, loss ratio emergence, and plan-vs-actual metrics
- Design dashboards and reporting tools for underwriting teams and senior leadership
- Conduct experience studies, parameter reviews, and assumption updates
- Support reserve reviews and respond to internal and external data calls
- Monitor emerging trends, legislation, and industry developments affecting actuarial assumptions
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Reserving, Exposure Management, finance, product teams, and the Managing Actuary
- Provide training and technical guidance to underwriters
- Present findings, model results, and recommendations to management, underwriting teams, compliance officers, partners, and regulators
- Ensure pricing data quality and champion data improvements
- Improve pricing processes, methodologies, and data infrastructure
- Maintain pricing model documentation and comply with governance and quality assurance standards
- Prepare actuarial reports, rate filings, and reserve analyses
- Support colleagues, contribute to team objectives, and mentor junior team members
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or a closely related quantitative field required
- Master's degree in a related discipline strongly preferred
- Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Fellowship (FCAS) designation required; ACAS or near-ACAS standing required
- 3 or more years of progressive actuarial experience in property and casualty insurance and/or reinsurance pricing required
- Experience building and deploying predictive models and pricing tools in a commercial or specialty insurance environment
- Experience with rate filing preparation, DOI interactions, and regulatory compliance preferred
- Familiarity with MGU/MGA, program, treaty, or facultative reinsurance business structures is a plus
- Prior experience working in or alongside data engineering or data science teams preferred
- Strong command of P&C actuarial pricing fundamentals, including loss development, trend analysis, credibility theory, exposure rating, retrospective rating, and experience modification
- Solid understanding of reinsurance pricing concepts including burning cost, experience rating, exposure rating, and swing plans
- Knowledge of catastrophe modeling concepts and their interaction with property pricing and portfolio management
- Understanding of insurance accounting and loss reserving concepts
- Familiarity with actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs) and professional guidelines relevant to pricing
- Advanced proficiency in Python required
- Proficiency in R strongly preferred
- Strong SQL skills for relational database extraction, transformation, and analysis
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and techniques, including GLMs, GBMs, gradient boosting, random forests, clustering, neural networks, and model ensembling
- Familiarity with MLOps concepts including model versioning, monitoring, feature stores, and deployment pipelines
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and big data tools such as Spark, Databricks, or Snowflake preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Query, pivot tables, and financial modeling
- Experience with version control systems such as Git, GitHub, or GitLab
- Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, or Looker preferred
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills
- Ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems using structured thinking
- Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to present findings to senior leadership, underwriting management, regulators, and external partners
