About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead structural investigations, diagnostics, design, and rehabilitation projects for existing bridges and other critical infrastructure
  • Manage projects, including client development, project scoping, assembling and managing project teams, schedules, budgets, financials, expectations, and deliverables
  • Apply engineering judgment and knowledge of governing codes, design guidelines, and industry practices
  • Serve as structural/bridge engineering subject-matter expert on interdisciplinary project teams
  • Perform investigation, design, analysis, repair, and renovation of bridges and complex civil structures
  • Prepare technically excellent client deliverables
  • Review and oversee the work of others
  • Perform hands-on fieldwork and train others in fieldwork
  • Mentor structural and bridge engineers and support career development
  • Foster client relationships and pursue project work and leads
  • Collaborate with practice leaders on knowledge-sharing and training initiatives
  • Participate in industry organizations, conferences, and technical committees

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas or ability to obtain by comity
  • SE licensure a plus
  • Master's degree or PhD in civil/structural engineering or related field; significant relevant expertise will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant structural engineering industry experience
  • Experience in technical and project management
  • Experience with structural analysis and design for repair, retrofit, and rehabilitation of existing bridge structures and/or other civil infrastructure
  • Experience with new design, failure/damage investigation, and general asset condition assessments
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship skills
  • Established regional network, including experience collaborating with state departments of transportation such as TxDOT
  • Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
  • Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures visually and with instruments
  • Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in hazardous locations
  • Ability to use ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment safely
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other PPE
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle
  • NHI bridge inspection certifications preferred
  • Precertification in Bridge Design with state departments of transportation preferred
