About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work within Women Against Abuse’s residential shelters and coordinate across various departments
  • Establish, lead, and nurture a welcoming, safe, supportive, trauma-informed community environment for residents and their children
  • Offer residents support, space to relax, and opportunities to talk
  • Provide informal support and resolve issues through listening, sharing, and identifying options
  • Provide tours and off-hour activities based on clients’ interests and needs, such as movie/game nights, holiday parties, and events
  • Assist new residents with settling in and immediate needs, including hygiene and basic living supplies
  • Maintain related inventory

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • At least one year of experience in an advocacy, crisis, or shelter support position required
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member required
  • Demonstrated commitment to service of others required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication required
  • Bilingualism strongly preferred
  • Willingness to attend Virtual Domestic Violence Advocate Paid Training after hire
  • Must provide satisfactory Child Abuse, Criminal, and FBI clearances
  • Part-time schedule: Saturday and Sunday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM (16 hours per week)
