About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the primary Finance focal point supporting the Onshore Projects division and lead a small team of accountants
  • Lead month-end close activities, including revenue and cost accruals, gross margin analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end financial packages
  • Review commercial agreements, agreed rates, and approvals for appropriate financial accounting
  • Provide project accounting support during project kick-off and monthly project review meetings
  • Work with Project Controls to structure projects around contractual requirements, revenue recognition points, and billing milestones
  • Review project costs and record accruals for missing costs to maintain accurate margins
  • Review variation orders and potential variation orders for appropriate accounting
  • Ensure revenue recognition and billing milestones are properly accounted for
  • Maintain visibility of project costs, pass-through costs, unbilled amounts, and billing activities
  • Perform margin analysis, including cost rate versus sell rate and mix and volume variance analysis
  • Prepare full-project forecasts through completion and compare results with the original “as sold” position
  • Perform contingency analysis and reflect contingency releases or increases in project accounting
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for assigned service lines
  • Lead engagement with internal and external auditors to complete relevant audits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field
  • Professional qualification in Accounting (CA) required; CPA or CMA designation an asset
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with a proven track record in full-cycle accounting
  • Experience ideally within an engineering consultancy or oil and gas project environment
  • Experience working with ERP systems, including Oracle and EPM/FCC
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles, revenue recognition, cost accounting, and financial reporting
  • Ability to meet month-end reporting deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to provide timely financial information to stakeholders and Project Managers
  • Ability to explain and influence the application of project accounting principles with non-finance personnel
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
