About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and develop regional Contracts team members and coordinate priorities across businesses
- Undertake and oversee client contract reviews in accordance with Wood's contracting policy
- Oversee proposed contract qualifications to ensure an appropriate balance of risk for associated services and remuneration models
- Provide overviews of contract terms and conditions and related issues to senior management and execution teams
- Provide contracts input into the Tender Governance Process and proposals
- Guide businesses on client contracting and negotiation strategies and terms and conditions
- Support timely delivery of commercial deliverables, including bonds, PCGs, and evidence of insurance
- Manage preparation, negotiation, establishment, and administration of unincorporated joint ventures and partnering agreements
- Build internal stakeholder relationships and identify strategies to avoid or mitigate contractual risks
- Provide commercial handover input to execution teams for awarded contracts
- Lead continuous improvement, including advancement of the Contract Lifecycle Management system and future implementation of AI legal tools
- Ensure relevant Commercial policies are understood and correctly applied
- Provide contract governance and assurance and recommend corrective actions
- Develop contract flow-down requirements for supplier NDAs, purchase orders, and subcontracts with supply chain
- Assist with pursuing Wood's claims and defending claims against Wood
- Represent Wood in industry-wide contract initiatives, seminars, and workgroups
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree required in one of: Law, Quantity Surveying, or Business Degree
- Line management experience of a team located across multiple international locations
- Contract & Commercial experience in engineering (consultancy, FEED, EP and detail design) and construction (EPC, CM, PMC, EPCM) projects
- Experience in one or more of: oil & gas, mining, power, infrastructure and environmental industries
- Demonstrable experience and proven track record of contract review, drafting, and negotiation in a service company environment
- Experience across industries in which Wood operates, with understanding of associated risks and exposure
- Experience negotiating and setting up JVs, MOUs, bidding agreements, and consortium agreements
- Expert knowledge of contract terms, contract principles, and drafting and rollout of contracting policies
- Working knowledge of Company Finance and HR systems
- Awareness of relevant corporate and project procedures
- Excellent understanding of client contract structures, principles, and policies
- Extensive experience with standard contract model forms, including NEC, FIDIC, JCT, LOGIC or regional equivalents
- Relevant client-facing contracting experience
- High level of commercial/business acumen supported by SME contractual knowledge
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence outcomes
- Proven leadership and people management capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong planning and prioritisation skills
- Effective mentoring and coaching skills
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities
