About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Report to the Operations Director
  • Direct execution of mineral resource estimation and support mineral reserve estimates
  • Provide guidance and management to resource geology and engineering teams
  • Perform geological and mineral resource/mineral reserve due diligence assessments
  • Lead, author and act as Qualified Person for NI 43-101, S-K 1300 and JORC technical reports
  • Coordinate external consultant contributions and manage certificates and consents as required
  • Develop technical disclosures supporting public company filings
  • Ensure consistency between technical reports and public disclosures
  • Ensure compliance with international professional standards and government regulations
  • Ensure quality of geological models and grade-population domaining
  • Develop modeling and domaining standards and work practices
  • Perform variography, grade interpolation, and resource-model verification and validation
  • Perform grade-control and reconciliation studies
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis
  • Train and mentor staff in mineral resource estimation methodology
  • Assist with identifying and recruiting high-quality staff
  • Support business development and strategic client relationship management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in geology, geostatistics, geological or mining engineering or mining-related field
  • More than 15 years’ experience in resource development, operations and geology with a focus on mineral resource estimation
  • More than 10 years’ experience with direct authorship of multiple NI 43-101 and S-K 1300 technical reports
  • Professional Geologist (P.Geo) registration or eligibility to register as a Professional Geoscientist or Engineer in Canada and/or USA, Chile or Peru
  • Industry recognition as an expert in geology and resource estimation
  • Fluency in major modeling software packages such as Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, MineSight, Gemcom or Vulcan
  • Must be eligible to act as a Qualified Person under NI 43-101 and S-K 1300
  • Relevant education, relevant experience, and good standing with an accepted professional association for QP eligibility
  • Knowledge of CIM, JORC, CRIRSCO or SME guidelines and public disclosure regulations including NI 43-101 and SEC S-K 1300
  • Experience in multiple operating mines and/or multiple commodities is an asset
  • Experience with PEA, PFS and FS project development studies is an asset
  • Experience with M&A due diligence, IPO, financing and international projects is an asset
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including to remote locations
  • Fluent and effective spoken and written English
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada, USA, Chile or Peru without sponsorship from Wood is required
