About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct rapid community assessments in disaster areas and identify urgent food needs
  • Build connections with affected communities and foster culturally competent relationships
  • Recruit, train, lead and manage locally driven community outreach teams
  • Lead frontline relief operations and implement adaptable response strategies in disaster and conflict environments
  • Respond to disaster areas within four hours notice, managing operations on the ground or, rarely, remotely
  • Gather beneficiary feedback and recommend response scope, scale-up, or wind-down strategies
  • Provide regular operational updates to the Response Director during activations and report to the Unit Director off activation
  • Collaborate with WCK departments, finance, procurement, and logistics teams
  • Share cost projections for outreach operations and coordinate sourcing and delivery of supplies
  • Manage personnel issues, performance feedback, mentoring, training, and professional development
  • Ensure smooth transitions and handovers between activation managers and rotating response teams
  • Complete after-action reports and identify process improvements
  • Represent World Central Kitchen to beneficiaries, partners, and media as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to spend up to 70% of the time in the field; typical activation duration is four weeks, potentially longer
  • Must live within one hour of an international airport or be willing to relocate
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to remote and potentially hazardous locations within four hours notice
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent preferred, or 5+ years of experience in management roles, preferably in fast-paced, ever-changing environments
  • Experience leading, training and coaching large teams in challenging and rapidly changing environments
  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of information into actionable steps under pressure
  • Ability to work independently with minimal infrastructure and resources
  • Willingness to work in challenging environments with austere living conditions
  • Ability to work well with others and take directions to protect yourself and the team
  • Demonstrated negotiation and diplomacy skills in complex and potentially volatile situations
  • Calm and composed demeanor during crisis situations, with capacity to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Physical fitness and stamina to work long hours doing physically demanding tasks in varying and potentially extreme climates
  • Strong mental resilience and emotional intelligence for working in conflict environments
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages such as Spanish, French, or Portuguese highly desirable
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Must have a valid Passport
