About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform special status plant and wildlife surveys, nesting bird surveys, vernal pool surveys, and habitat assessments
- Conduct biological monitoring during construction activities to ensure resource protection measures are implemented
- Work primarily in the field, including long days and single- or multi-day assignments throughout the year
- Perform botanical surveys for qualified applicants
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
- Support and participate in Wright’s and Eocene Environmental’s safety and employee ownership culture
- Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and company policies
- Travel outside the primary work area as required
- Perform desktop responsibilities as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, and/or a closely related discipline
- Strong knowledge of California flora and fauna
- Minimum of 3 months previous experience conducting nesting bird and/or special status wildlife surveys
- Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently with short deadlines
- Ability to interact and coordinate with state, federal, and tribal agencies
- Proficiency with standard field equipment and technology
- Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
- Ability to work night shifts based on business needs
- Ability to identify California bird species by sight and sound
- Ability to identify California reptile and amphibian species
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to perform field and desktop work independently
- Good communication skills, strong writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with typical utility operations and maintenance activities
- Familiarity with basic use of ESRI GIS applications, including desktop, ArcGIS, Collector, and Survey123
- Excellent navigation skills and good driving record
- Experience driving a four-wheel drive vehicle off-road or in rough terrain
- Experience in construction monitoring and surveying for nesting birds is a plus
- Botanical survey experience and familiarity using a dichotomous key to identify plant species is a plus
- Possession of a Scientific Collecting or Federal 10a1a permit is a plus
- Experience working around heavy machinery and communicating with construction crews is a plus
