About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform annual distribution vegetation inspections along 21kV, service drops, and communication lines under GO 95, Rule 35, PRC 1492, and PRC 1493
- Perform annual transmission vegetation and audit inspections under FAC-003-5
- Conduct visual, detailed, and intrusive inspections for 21kV poles under GO 165
- Manage 21kV pole data and pole ID numbers for existing and new construction
- Inspect vegetation around power plants and Calpine buildings and infrastructure
- Inspect vegetation along steam, vent, injection lines, roadways, and other Calpine non-utility infrastructure
- Assign vegetation work to tree crews and herbicide applicators
- Audit and perform quality control on work completed by tree contractors and herbicide applicators
- Manage Fulcrum vegetation and pole data
- Coordinate with Calpine engineers on new construction and planned vegetation work
- Complete required annual inspection and audit reports
- Assist Calpine with vegetation-related needs
- Contact property owners and public agencies regarding pruning and removals
- Gather and manage field data, including tree species, size, and distance from conductors
- Verify summaries and charts accurately reflect underlying datasets
- Safeguard employees and the public from work-area hazards
- Enforce on-the-job safety practices
- Carry and use materials, tools, and equipment at work sites
- Service trucks and equipment and maintain assigned equipment
- Ensure adherence to company policies and internal controls
- Support Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
- Travel outside the normal work area as needed
- Remain on duty for the duration of emergencies or natural disasters when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in forestry or related field and/or experience in utility line clearance
- Prior pre-inspection experience (Required)
- ISA Certified Arborist (Required)
- TRAQ Certified Arborist (Preferred)
- Proficiency in program specifications, regulations, and standards
- Superior species identification and invasive species knowledge
- Knowledge of tree growth rates
- Proficient in map navigation skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office and data collection software
- GIS experience a plus
- Valid driver’s license and DOT medical card to tow and drive a side by side
- Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and communicate with employees and vendors
- Willingness to travel and work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Excellent customer service skills
