About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals
- Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, approved work methods, customer requirements, and OSHA regulations
- Allocate and prioritize crew tasks under the direction of the General Foreperson
- Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and employee coaching
- Apply herbicides to stumps and brush using applicable equipment and maintain application records
- Obtain property-owner permission for tree trimming, removal, and herbicide application; coordinate access and explain planned work
- Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools near energized power lines
- Conduct pre-inspections of work areas and identify hazards
- Load vehicles and equipment with manageable limbs and logs
- Repair minor property damage and escalate issues to the General Foreperson
- Maintain customer and public relations through effective work and professional crew behavior
- Maintain production records, timesheets, work orders, crew assignments, manhours, and cost-control information
- Interpret utility maps, drawings, symbols, power-line types, voltages, and line equipment to support daily work assignments
- Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic control devices, and direct traffic
- Stage and clean up tools and equipment; maintain an orderly work area
- Inspect vehicles and equipment and perform routine maintenance; report specialized maintenance needs
- Coordinate crew response during emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location
- Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment, including vehicles towing chippers or other trailing units
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
- Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, as required
- Maintain herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by Wright Tree Service and applicable law
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations and multitask
- Knowledge of trees, tree identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques near energized conductors
- Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and understand circuit maps
- Knowledge of OSHA electric power standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
- Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions
- Ability to recognize poisonous plants and use required safeguards
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, holidays, weekends, and storm work; subject to call-out work
- Knowledge and training to perform tree and bucket rescue
- Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment
- Ability to work independently and in a group
- English proficiency required for reading, writing, and speaking
- Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds infrequently and 30 pounds frequently
- Ability to enter and exit vehicles and equipment numerous times per day
- Ability to work outdoors on rugged terrain and tolerate exposure to weather, hazards, chemicals, heights, noise, vibration, and electrical current
