About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prune, remove, and fell trees, limbs, and shrubs away from power lines
- Load vehicles and equipment with manageable limbs and logs
- Use climbing equipment, powered trimmer lift trucks, safety belts, climbing lines, ladders, saws, and pruners
- Cut branches and trunk sections aloft and lower them using rigging lines
- Fell trees or spars and split them into manageable pieces
- Work near energized power lines under qualified supervision and potentially supervise non-qualified employees after meeting prerequisites
- Apply herbicides and growth regulators and maintain application records
- Educate less experienced employees on company policies, safety practices, approved work methods, and OSHA regulations
- Repair minor job-site property damage and escalate issues to General Forepersons
- Feed brush and debris into woodchippers
- Set up traffic-control signs, barriers, flags, and signals; direct traffic
- Cooperate with property owners, customers, and emergency personnel
- Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools
- Report specialized maintenance or equipment needs to General Forepersons
- Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
- Remain on duty and travel outside the regular work location during emergencies or natural disasters
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with company policies and applicable laws
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 3 months of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
- Basic knowledge of trees, identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques
- Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and understand circuit maps
- Knowledge of OSHA standards for electric power generation, transmission, and distribution, including 29 CFR 1910.269
- Ability to determine nominal voltage and use insulated tools near energized parts
- Ability to read and write job instructions and safety information
- Ability to recognize poisonous plants
- Ability to wear required PPE
- Knowledge and training in tree and bucket rescue
- Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
- Ability to work independently and in a group
- Valid First-Aid and CPR cards, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's or commercial driver's license and DOT medical card, as applicable
- Herbicide application certification or equivalent, as required
- English language proficiency: reading, writing, and speaking
- Ability to work long hours, overtime, holidays, weekends, storm work, and call-out work
- Ability to meet physical demands, including climbing, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering up to 50 pounds frequently
- Extensive travel required, greater than 50%
