About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain the European obligations register, permissions map, and jurisdictional compliance framework
- Monitor regulatory change and conduct horizon scanning across relevant EU and local markets
- Assess market-entry risks and regulatory perimeter considerations for new European jurisdictions
- Maintain and challenge the European risk register, risk appetite position, and key risk indicators
- Provide second-line review and challenge of product governance and distribution arrangements
- Review digital journeys and customer outcomes, including transparency, accessibility, and vulnerable customer considerations
- Operate risk-based compliance monitoring activities
- Track monitoring findings through effective closure and independently verify remediation activities
- Oversee incidents, breaches, complaint themes, root-cause analysis, and partner oversight activities
- Produce meaningful management information and escalate material risks promptly
- Provide principal second-line oversight for Wrisk Europe GmbH and German insurance distribution activities
- Translate complex EU and local regulatory standards into practical, proportionate controls supporting safe European expansion
- Advise European management and challenge business decisions while balancing growth objectives with strong conduct standards and customer outcomes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proven experience in second-line risk management and compliance
- Deep understanding of EU and local European insurance distribution regulations, including IDD and local conduct rules
- Experience navigating international expansion, market-entry risks, and multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks across Germany, Ireland, and the wider EEA
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Ability to act as a trusted, pragmatic adviser while maintaining independent challenge of business decisions
- Strong focus on customer outcomes, digital customer journeys, transparency, and fair treatment of vulnerable customers
- Ability to analyze complex regulatory requirements and identify root causes in incidents or complaints
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, proportionate controls
- Ability to work effectively across Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, Insurance, and Compliance
- Data-driven, commercially astute, technically curious, deeply organised, and highly effective at advising senior stakeholders
